We have previously been informed about the threats for attacks on the InWorldz web and yesterday there where some kind of attack on the assets server, at least thats what the twitter postings said.

If it is possible without further risking the security... I would really appreciate some information about what is happening.

Lol... see how easy it is for us non native english speaking persons to misunderstand... (at least for me on a bumping train...)
The "coded" short form Twitter chatter is often totally incomprehensible for me... ;o)

So.... I will be patient and wait until that coffe and donut is down.

Throughout a majority of last week we began experiencing problems with our asset infrastructure that were very unusual and never seen before. People were having issues rezzing objects, logging in, getting textures to download etc.

Yesterday this started happening again but now there were major issues between asset servers talking to one another (again, something that should not happen). Upon investigation it was found that one of our regions was writing an incredible amount of data to our servers. There was one avatar on the region. This region was shut down and the avatar was removed from the grid.

Around 5 minutes later the same thing started happening on another region, same problem, same data rate. This region was shut down as well. This happened on one other region before the person or persons finally stopped.

After the final time they were disconnected I looked into what was happening on the affected region's log files. I mitigated the problem by changing the way the particular data that was being saved gets sent over to our asset servers.

Do to the timing of the events this looked to be an intentional attack. But because the script was so obtuse it is also possible that it was a really really bad coding mistake. So in this case I don't have enough evidence to sufficiently confirm it was entirely intended to cause damage. I plugged the ability for an attack of that kind to be used in the future whether this one actually was or not is still a debate in my head.
