This isn't the first time this has happened...I just received a notice containing an ad for another grid. Said grid is brand new. Wouldn't this be a TOS violation?

Well don't know if it is against tos or not but the fact that they advertised another grid in IW would be enough reason for me not to go

It most likely is not a TOS violation. At least in IW. I know that in Second Life, their TOS is overly restrictive and you can get banned for trying to persuade someone to leave SL (even if it is for that person's own good).

Did you see a TOS to this effect?

IMHO it is of no importance, people will find what they find, and settle where they settle. There's a place for everyone.

Same theory applied to WCIFI, advertising new groups is part of the Where Can I Find It philosophy. What good is a group to find things that limits what things can be found?

Ok I digress, but really I don't think we have any need to isolate Iwz residents to keep them here. We's cool and we knows it!

Also, bear in mind that the users of IW have advertised/promoted it to their friends in SL. If we are condemning someone else for doing so, then it sort of sets a double standard for many of us (including myself, should I condemn someone for advertising their favorite grid).

That said, if there's any deceptive content in the advert, then that's an entirely different thing.

Advertizing another grid directly to one's friends is a bit different from making an account, joining an advertizing group and sending a notice advertizing a new grid. Granted it may not be a TOS violation here in IW. The manner in which this was done is, IMHO, quite unethical.

If the person created an account just to come in and advertise their competing grid, then yes, that is very different.

The accounts name is exactly the same as the grid name.. So I would think so.

just my tuppence:

at the very most innocuous doing this is "bad form"

on the other end of the scale... it would depend on the grid owner to decide if it 'was' just bad form.. or if there should be a ban-stick involved.
