Once again the beta grid has been updated. It is currently running version R1482.

Here's what's been changed or fixed since the R1362 version currently running on the main grid:

  • • Major development of new super-scalable inventory management code, based at the back end on Cassandra.
  • • Added voice chat support for several voice technologies Whisper/Mumble/Vivox (beta is using Vivox for standard legacy voice support in viewers).
  • • Added server-side avatar support for alpha, tattoo, and avatar physics layers. All viewers will now see the avatar, regardless of their use of physics layers, however at this time, InWorldz and Imprudence viewers will not be sent the physics layers, so those viewers will just not see them (but will otherwise see the avatar correctly). Fixes Mantis 1147.
  • • The alpha layer support above will hopefully also addresses Mantis 688 and Mantis 1211, "ghost attachments" and unexpected invisible and visible HUDs.
  • • Where appropriate, return a rezzed object to the original folder from which it was rezzed when it is taken.
  • • The case where a user login fails because the user is already logged in -- both in the real case of that, and also in the case where they were once logged in long ago but disconnected abnormally, e.g. viewer crash -- have both been improved to allow that login to continue successfully, logging out and resetting any lingering data from the previous session. (No more "already logged in" type errors logging in.)
  • • Fixes for Mantis 1136, permissions issues when linking and unlinking. (R1463 Update: Additional fixes in build R1463, now running on beta.)
  • • Fixed attachment rotation updates to properly save the new rotation for future restoring after detach/attach (even after the first such update).
  • R1476 Update: Additional fixes to llGetBoundingBox() to resolve Mantis 1240, now running on beta.
  • • Fixed llCreateLink() to silently fail if the group to add is already linked, instead of resulting in a damaged object at the server end.
  • • Fixed some inconsistent locking problems that may or may not have resulted in what objects were known to a given scene/region.
  • • Improvements to the handling of items being dropped into a prim, to prevent the case where someone drops a huge set of folders into a prim unknowingly and loses no-copy items. Also detects the use of Stored Inventory and disables the code in this case.
  • • Some minor tweaks to the OAR import process, including group-owned objects.
  • • Fixed yet another an old bogus test for default sit position that mixed up .W and .Z members of the rotation. (This only affected whether the server thought the sit target was at the default position or not.)
  • R1476 Update: Fixed llGetParcelFlags (and similar getters) fail/stop when accessing adjacent region. Fixes Mantis 1289, now running on beta.
  • R1476 Update: Fix problem with short reads on script HTTP requests, now running on beta.
  • R1481 Update: Fixed the permissions checks when rezzing of objects from other scripted objects to not be dependent on the owner's current tag at all, but rather to be dependent on the land options and the group tag assigned to that scripted object. Fixes Mantis #1095.
  • R1482 Update: The error message when llRezAtRoot or llRezObject fail has been update to indicate it may also be caused by a "create object" permissions issue.

    Internal Infrastructure Updates:
  • • Fixes to the exception handler to allow region crashes to be properly logged.
  • • R1476 Update: Some additional updates to the server's internal logging.
  • • R1476 Update: Additional debugging support for the new inventory system (including an inventory browser to help monitor and diagnose behavior and issues).
  • R1480 Update: Change phlox over to use monotonic timers for all scheduling tasks. This avoids potential scheduling problems on a Daylight Savings Time change, time synchronization update change, or other wallclock time changes.

Would this explain why in some cases of bringing in items thru SI, I wd end up in IW with only a partial set of prims or maybe total failure of a particular upload?

Software called Cassandra ?! - does that mean you're historically obliged to disregard any warning messages it issues ?

Tranq will have to comment on that since it's his change, but I believe it was only related to the Contents of a prim or object, i.e. when SI inserts something into a prim's contents.

Um... I dunno why they chose that name but... no it's Apache Cassandra. ;)

I suspect the creator thought it sounded a nice name without knowing their Greek history...

The beta grid has received and incremental update. I've updated the original posting in this thread but here it is:
    • Fixes to llGetBoundingBox() to resolve Mantis 1240.

    • Additional fixes for permissions problems after linking objects with different permissions. This update provides an experimental change to permissions to attempt to resolve this and any related issues. See Mantis 1136 for more.
