This morning for about 2 hours changes to an IM to email script created a malfunction which continuously added recipients to outbound emails. This caused two things:

- IMs/notices intended for certain recipients may have instead gone to the recipient and a list of users that should not have received the notice

- Email addresses of users were exposed to other users, however there was no direct connection between the username and the email address.

This script was created by a company we were contracting to handle all of our web work. Due to this issue, and a previous issue the last time we tried to launch the new website, this contract is now terminated.

As soon as the first report of this problem was handed to me we responded by completely disabling outbound email from inworldz.com.

We are instating a new policy whereby only core employees of InWorldz, LLC will work on portions of our code that could deal with sensitive information.

We are very sorry for this problem and are baffled by the lack of care that was taken in this matter.

Please note that if you did not receive any emails as described you were not affected.

Given the 'previous issue', you're more forgiving than I would have been...

Totally agree. the previous issue would have been the deal breaker for me, extreme carelessness... this time... thankfully it was not that type of data.... however that doesn't make it any less bad.

I never got any email... and not worried if anyone got email that was intended for me... if you did just forward it on over heh.

Sorry this happened, and am glad you took care of it asap!

It sounds like it was a very wise move to break with them. Thank you for bring so on top of things and for not tolerating their behavior any further.

Tranq, thank you and the other founders for clarity and transparency in this and other issues in the past. I certainly can understand your terminating the contract.
Take care and thanks for your prompt attention to that matter.

:time: ooo bummer, at least some people in this world are honest enough to tell people when a mistake has been made. And at least they have the balls to say that something went wrong, that was a bad thing to do and like most that is very forgiving to not terminate before.
It reminds me of the old saying 'Silence is Golden, Duct tape is silver ...
