We are currently planning on a fairly significant upgrade coming to the Sandbox regions perhaps as early as this coming Tuesday or Wednesday, but requiring a longer soak/test cycle. This results in an expected grid-wide rollout overnight on Tuesday August 23.
However, we have a couple of potential fixes and improvements already that can be applied to the User Login server on login.inworldz.com. This does not require upgrades of the regions, however restarting the central grid services can cause user online status to become incorrect. So we're going to update the central services tonight and then restart (only) all regions. This is not
an upgrade of the region software.
As a result, all regions will be restarted overnight tonight
And there are a couple of login-related fixes or improvements you may notice even without region upgrades:
- [Fix] The update may address any remaining problems with selecting the "My last location" on the login screen. One has been found and fixed, and I don't think it will require region upgrades to see the improvement.
- [Feature] The User login server now implements new forms of grid-wide bans, so trouble from some users you may have seen recently will be less troublesome going forward.
- [Feature] If the location specified
on login is not
available, the login server will first attempt to route you to your Home location. Only if the specified location and
your Home are both
not available will it then try to route you to the default regions (IDI, InWorldz Sandbox regions, IDI2).
That last one is a nice feature. If you're at another location and are caught in a rolling restart or region upgrade, or the region was experiencing problems, you and the others there won't necessarily all end up at IDI when logging back in. You'll end up at your Home location instead. (Especially useful if yer nekkid at the time.)
So rolling restarts to all regions tonight
, after a couple of new features and a fix on the login server itself.
