I did not post this right away as I wanted to think this through and try to find a pattern. But I give up and lay out the whole mess as is:

Problem: Some avatars can't seem to keep their attachments in the right spot while others have no issue.

Test: Tiwi's glasses always end up on her chin and her skirt on her back when she logs-in.

- Tiwi gives copies to Erasmus who adjust the attchements on himself, logs-off, logs-on. They are in the right spot.
- Erasmus gives copies of edited items back to Tiwi.
- She wears them, logs off, logs back on. They are in the right spot.
- Repeat with her original attachments, wrong spot.

Part II:
I create an alt avatar, basic Ruth, no inventory, etc.

- Erasmus gives edited items to Ruth.
- Ruth wears them, logs-off, logs on. They are on the right spot.
- Tiwi gives her original items. Ruth wears them, logs off and on. They are on the WRONG spot.
- Ruth edits Tiwi's items ... off .... on ... wrong spot.
- Ruth gives Tiwi Erasmus' edited items.
- Tiwi wears Erasmus items given by Ruth ... RIGHT spot
- Ruth gives Erasmus Tiwi's items.
- Erasmus gives them Tiwi ... wrong spot
- Erasmus edit items received from Ruth, gives to Tiwi ... right spot.

We went around every which way (without crashing, oddly enough!)

The only pattern found was that only Erasmus could edit attachment positions for them to stick through log-in/off of the other avatars.

Erasmus is still wearing the glasses through several log-off/on ... not the skirt, I'll be happy to test, but I do have limits :)
:hahah:

Tiwi has a large inventory
Erasmus has less than 100 items
Ruth has almost nothing.

We were all using viewer 1.07

:lost:

This actually has to do with the items being the original items. Copies seem to work fine, although personally, I have no clue why this is, as I've not checked the DB for the attachment process it is applying nor the permission levels set to them.

To be honest, I probably will not start looking at that particular issue until next week, as we're in the midst of rolling out the first of a 3 part session of grid stability, which is far more important at this point.

That being said, I will slate looking at attachments with Legion and Loki later on this week :)

No rush, there are indeed more important issues.

But no, copies or original seem to be affected in the same. Erasmus gave copy to Ruth, Ruth edited copy ... wrong spot.
Ruth gave copy to Erasmus, Erasmus edited copy ... right spot

One more far off suspicion: The gender of the avatar. Bladax (male with large inventory) is not affected by that bug either. Although we did not get a chance to run the tests with him.
While it may seem far off, when changing gender, it changes some of the avatar params, including attachment points I think. The default being female ... wonder if changing to male then back to female would change that behavior.

I had similar issue. I created a crash helmet to wear over the weekend. Was fine once I got it positioned on my avatar.

I relogged later, and it was half way through my skull. It's possible an update did something, to attachments.

Brainstorming on this for a minute.

I'm no expert on the DB but it sounds to me like an original article (uploaded through second inventory?) is not updating its attachment vectors in the database. This could be due to some permissions flag glitch or something that goes away when the item is copied.

I don't know for certain, but that's where I would start looking.

Yeah I am having same problems with attachments after I relog... its only the attachments I am making... mainly skirts, shoes seem to sit fine, no movement... I think it was also happening before the viewer update

Hi

I have been testing attachment properties for weeks and here are my conclusions

First, copies do work if used in a certain way. This is something the creator of the item must do before passing out copies to other avatars. My method is as follows;

Fit the original

Take off the original using inventory (not detach from the pie menu)

Using inventory, make a copy of the original.

Store the original in inventory and do not delete it.

Wear the copy.

If the properties change on the copy, re-wear the original and the properties return to the copy. Re-wear the copy.

I have hundreds (ok 1000's lol) of attached items and this works perfectly for all my attachments. Another few items to consider;

I make my own attachments and fit them to one avatar shape.

Importing with Second Inventory; all imports have the same avatar name on them.

Fitting attachments: This is an old SL method but I have used it for years. Fit the item and remove it using inventory (not detach from the pie menu) Repeat this method 3 times. Store the item in a box and leave it in your region, parcel etc. This saves the original attachment properties forever (unless you delete the box)

After setting the attachment properties in this manner you can now distribute your items to other avatars with no attachment issues at all. I have handed out a lot of hair that works fine.

If you need a demonstration, you can contact me in world :)
