Same here Judy, I have 20 folders inside my objects folder (I just counted lol). Once a month or so (or whenever it needs it) I go into my objects folder and do my 'filing'. Yup, that's what I call it! I treat my objects folder like a filing cabinet.

I also work hard to keep the number of things in my inventory at a manageable level, tossing anything I don't need (I am the anti-hoarder lol).

I have just over 11k items right now.

I'm sure you do Sophia, congrats for the 11K :-) But I see you created your own tree of 20 objects folders still under system folder objects. You can create your folder "my objects" with those 20 folders elsewhere in your inventory as a new tree under the main root of inventory.

I'm on latest Firestorm.

And yes here also, even after soon 5 years in IW, I have an inventory that never went over 22K, even with all I created and bought here, including ALL versions of InWorldz Explorer Hud and ALL updates of 900+ locations (with LM's and NC's subfolders) by year/month since 2014...

I also do ask on website for a inventory backup every Monday. Just in case.

My friend here, where I do her move boxes, told me I should have been a librarian or a move company boss instead of doing a IT career. Funny! But then an IT career also forces you to be tidy with code and versions. "So spracht Jim and Wolfie" (wink). I'm now "filing" all her paperwork and bills. O my gawddddd! LOL!

Never heard of dead entries in inventories. Call the ghost busters!

Question: Is there anyone in this thread with some form or inventory problems NOT using Firestorm? (Are you all on the latest 4.7.9 version?)

Sofia, there was a problem with not being possible to delete landmarks from the Favorites folder. The viewer isn't requesting the delete so when you log back in it's there. We can manually remove them though if you send in a support ticket and indicate which Favorites you'd like removed (or if you want all your favorites cleaned out to start fresh). It's fast an easy for us to actually do an inventory delete from Favorites. Is that the case you're referring to? The LM in question is in favorites? Are you using Firestorm?

The landmark is not in favorites (I really rarely use 'favorites' except for my store, workshop and one club that is ... well ... a favorite :)
I use Firestorm, I have used V3 in the past (I don't remember if it was there with V3 tho)
I never considered one errant landmark to be worth support's efforts - I just smile and delete it - again :)

All this talk of organization ['electronic filing systems' and 'folder trees'] has me wondering if the "rule of three" [my term for remembering how I should organize my inventory contents] is still [or ever was] "a thing".

In the past [4+ years ago] the advice given to me by a seasoned builder, when I started creating, was: be organized; but not to the point of many-multiple-layered sub folders. At the time this advice 'seemed' to make sense and to bear out in practice.

The claim was that it's more difficult [and lag-evident] for 'the system' to manage folder trees if they are more than three layers deep. Is this [still/was it ever] true? ... or just another urban myth?

Folders are loaded server-side and transferred a whole folder at a time, so it's good to keep any one folder from being too large.

Me sticks to my folder trees and organized inventory by category of objects and builds.
And not a 4 folders "dump all" making it more likely for them to overflow
And not under system folder objects.

I do same under any OS.
Not under C:\my documents (my pictures, my videos, my feet, my @##) but under \data on another disk. Same for Linux.

You just do what you want guys.
Why do I still bother what others do or not?

Oh, Jeez, now my Textures folder is missing lots of stuff; all the things that are not in folders.
Can't even create a backup of the inventory on the website.
More tombstones?

Filing a Support Ticket.

UPDATE:
Did it. As usual no ID number on the page that says report filed; therefore no way to track it.
As usual no email either. :(

Do you not see an ID if you go back in to the support page and list your open reports ?

According to your second screen-shot you're not signed-in. Try registering and signing-in, you'll see a list of your open tickets :-
