Question, I have tried a couple of times to use SI to back up my goodies.

First I've heard of it, hopefully if there's others having the issue they'll pipe up here.

You can use http://inworldz.com:8002/ instead of the IP for it SC. It should work either way though. As for the Upload fee, the grid doesn't actually charge an upload fee, so you can leave it or set it to 0. :)

A few more tricks I have found useful in using SI
1) before backing up your original content, make boxes place in boxes any item except "objects". "objects" have to unpacked NOT in a box. Might I suggest one named pants another tops etc. this will actually speed things up when uploading. When uploading it will download all items in the box much faster than one item at a time. I have not seen how many items to put in box but a good number would be 20 i think.
This will also help your inventory inworldz because u now have a folder called "tops" after u open the box.

2) At your original world place the loaded box in a folder called "transfer 071409" or whatever. Then when u go to originally back up the items u can just upload that particular folder and not your whole inventory. Saves hours

3) I like to actually go to one of the 4 testing regions first inworldz then when I use SI i say "last" for location.

4) When using SI you have the choice of downloading contents please read through them and uncheck any u do not want such as landmarks or bling for shoes etc just download what u want.

5) After downloading using SI I like to relog into inworldz normally again saying last bringing me to testing site and check my inventory. Any scripts I have downloaded I test right there and if it does not work i delete it.

6) You will also find in your inworldz inventory at the bottom a folder called SI restore and folders with date stamps on them. For some reason the server does not like these folders. I go through them transfer the contents out of the date stamp folders and then delete the folder with the date stamp.

So bottom line a little work before using SI will speed up your time using SI and also when you are inworld.
Hope this helps

Excellent advice!

The only thing to be aware of, you can put more than 20 to a box, max is about 150 really before the viewer says it doesn't like you ;) however, if you put in that many you may find that a few textures may SAY they upload, but when you actually open them to view them they are 0 x 0 meaning they truly did not upload correctly. So make sure you check all those textures you uploaded and let them all load in fully to make sure you got them all.

Other thing that will help tremendously for those people who had no idea about the SI folders and date timestamps, is the web side inventory is almost complete (just adding the delete function for items atm), so if you've hit that magical number of 60 (based on lots of testing and cleaning of inventory folders for people) and the grid says it won't load your inventory anymore, you can clean it up that way. That will be released later today.

These are great tips to anyone who is new with SI though, as we're finding alot of users just now getting SI and using it to upload to here.

:goodthing:

I know it's been said more then a few times that we should try not to upload textures using SI. I've found something however of interest in doing so. It seems the issue with the textures being "white" when uploaded with SI seem to be at least in my case 98% of them have a file extension in their names. As in the name.tga or .jpg ect. Almost everyone that had such was "white" and unusable. The rest for the most part were fine. I don't know if that's the case with everyone or if its something that's just me. Though I haven't tried re-uploading those same files yet manually to see if they work. I will do so as soon as I have the chance.

This too seems to be an issue with sound files. If they have .wav extensions they don't play. Just strange it may be an SI upload issue as well. Again I'm uncertain. I may fiddle with them in SL and take the extensions off and re-upload that way first as it would save me a lot of time. Just thought I'd pass my findings on in case anyone else was having this same issue.

I was finally able to get into SL today after trying for about 3 hours...then finally able to get into Xstreet (I was getting a message saying only "RP" on my upper left screen) after the same amount of time; I purchased SI; registered installed, etc.

Now I can't get SI to connect...keeps saying make sure my user name/pw are correct, etc., which they are. Finally went to the SI website and sent in this info. Hopefully that will get straightened out soon.

Now, question - once inventory is backed up to my hard drive, do I have to export it into InWorldz by tomorrow, or is that deadline just for getting things out of SL?

Whew...this is an adventure...but fun. Elenia, you must have a lot of energy and stress tolerance...I really enjoyed meeting you last night as well as many other great people!
